How to reach Bhitarkanika National Park?

The Bhitarkanika National Park is located in the district of Kendrapada in the Indian state of Odisha. There are several ways to get to the national park.

Air – Biju Patanaik Airport, Bhuvaneshwar is the nearest airport which is 140 km away from the national park.

ByTrain – Bhadrak is the nearest railway station and 70 km from Bhitarkanika.

ByRoad – Buses run from Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Balasore, but the frequency is low and only goes as far as Kendrapara or Chandbali. After that, you must book a taxi.

Note – It is extremely difficult to arrive on time by bus, and the boat ride service closes at 3 p.m. It is advised to take a taxi from the nearest city.

Bhitarkanika Boat Ride Cost

Bhitarkanika mangroves are a mangrove wetland and cover a large area in the river delta of the Brahmani and Baitarani rivers. Boating is the only way to roaming around the national park. There are two boat pick-up points:

  1. Khola Point
  2. Gupti Point

However, because of the narrow backwater ways, Khola point is a tourist favourite. Khola point has private registered boats for rent. The cost of the boast ranges between Rs.2500-Rs.3000, with a forest entry fee of Rs.200 per boat.

Note –Please note that there are no shared boats. You must pay a minimum of Rs.2500 whether you go alone or in a group. A single boat with two crew members can carry a maximum of 18 people.

Best Time to Visit

The winter season from October to February is the best time to visit Bhitarkanika, and the morning hours are ideal for boat trips as the crocodiles come out of the water to warm themselves and are easy to see.

Where and What to Eat

There are only a few restaurants close to the museum. You can eat vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals as well as seafood here. After lunch, take a stroll through the mangrove forest. It is approximately a 2 km area where you can see mangroves up close.
