Chikmagalur – My Dream Retirement Destination

Hello, I hope everything is going well with you. I was just thinking that we have no control over where we are born. We are also compelled to live in a city where we work, but a dream always lives on in our hearts. That dream follows us wherever we go. The desire to live in one place for forever. Here I am gonna to reveal why I have chose Chikmagalur – My Dream Retirement Destination.

Some people prefer to live in cities, while others prefer to live in rural areas. My dream is to live in a hilly forest area, and Chikmagalur is the ideal location to fulfill this dream. By the way I am gonna to live in the forest, little away from city.

Many of you may be unaware of this location and might be wondering why this particular location. well, I’ve been to every town in India, from smaller towns to major cities; you name it, and I’ve been there. I’ll tell you why I chose this specific location., and I will also provide all relevant information if you wish to visit Chikmagalur. I chose this location for the following reasons.

1. Chikmagalur’s Climate and Pollution Free Environment

Chikmagalur is located in the Western Ghats region and has a cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. There is no extreme cold or need for air conditioning here. The weather is very pleasant.

You might think that because Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand are hilly states, there is no pollution, but the air index quality is poor. The Western Ghats are India’s only region with the best air index quality.

2. Wildlife Sanctuary and Beautiful Landscapes

I am a nature enthusiast who enjoys visiting hills and forests. The Bharda wildlife sanctuary is India’s largest wildlife sanctuary, and it is only 20 kilometres from Chikmagalur city and two kilometres from where I will live. You could almost say I’ll be in a wildlife sanctuary.

Chikmagalur is also called as land of hills. You can stand anywhere and enjoy the panoramic view of the beautiful hills. Coffee plantation amidst dense forests easily attracts your heart.

During the monsoon season, many waterfalls come alive. Water drops on tree leaves and the sound of water flowing on the ground, as if giving birth to some melodious music. The white clouds fall on the hills as if they are kissing them.

3. Geographical Advantage – Easy Conveyance

Besides natural beauty, Chikmagalur has the advantage of its geographical location too. Bengaluru International Airport is only 260 kilometres away, and Goa is 400 kilometres away if I want to enjoy the beaches. As a Sadhguru follower and spiritual seeker, I would need to visit the Isha Yoga centre on a regular basis, which is only 500 kilometres away. I can drive there in about 7-8 hours.

4. Earthquake-free Zone

When I hear about an earthquake, it is always in the north of India, not the south. I did some research and discovered the truth. Actually, the Indian continent plateau is linked to the Himalayas, which run from Afghanistan to Myanmar. When an earthquake occurs, the conjunction point is severely impacted.

Have you ever heard of an earthquake in Karnataka or Tamil Nadu? No, that’s correct.

5. Language and supportive people

Because I am a north Indian guy and my mother tongue is Hindi so I was looking for a place where I can communicate with people easily and it become more important in the South. Although Chikmagalur’s local languge is Kannada but they do not hesitate to speak Hindi if needed. I found them very supportive and honest.

As I previously stated, I will provide you with all relevant information that will be useful if you plan to visit Chikmagalur.

Homestays in Chikmagalur

One can find  many hotels in the city, but I recommend staying in homestays. There are numerous homestays available for booking online or offline.

I used to live at the “Grass Drops” homestay (please note that this is not sponsored post). This is in a very peaceful area where you can enjoy the sunset and panoramic view of the hills. It has everything, including a children’s play area, volleyball, cricket, a swimming pool, and music.

It has individual cottages that are all very spacious and comfortable. Ideal for couples, families, or groups of friends.

You can also check out Expedia for bookings.

Thank you for reading. Stay happy and blessed !! Rann utsav is about to begin from November and if you are planning to visit there then must read my detailed blog on White Rann of Kutch.
